Cranberry Lake is a small hamlet on the western slopes of the Adirondack Mountains, and is the gateway to one of the last remaining true wilderness areas in New York State. The lake itself boasts nearly 150 miles of pristine, natural shoreline, most of which is state land and designated forever wild. No one will ever put a road through this beautiful wilderness, or build a cottage. This area is some of the most scenic forest you will ever see. It is laced with well-marked trails throughout its hundreds of thousands of acres, and is home to dozens of species of plants and animals. For the fisherman, Cranberry Lake is a paradise, and contains smallmouth bass, perch, bullhead, northern pike, and speckled, brown and rainbow trout. For campers we have the DEC-operated public campground, with more than 150 sites. Cranberry Lake is an ideal base for one day trips. Visitors here are only 75 miles from Canada and the St. Lawrence Seaway, only 60 miles from Lake Placid, just 60 miles from the spectacular Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake, and just 86 miles from Old Forge. |
